Sep 2016 Travelshopa | Modern Eclectic

There’s something quite intriguing about living in a modern eclectic space. Interiors that marry styles of various textures, eras, trends, elements and colours add character and depth to any room. The Zonars Café Bar Restaurant in Greece is a wonderful example of this. The interior maintains the rich history of the restaurant but also introduces contemporary elements into the 80-year-old space.

Velvet, gold, marble and bronze are at the centre of modern eclecticism paired with antique-inspired furniture. Mix and match these items or take it up a notch by placing indoor plants, rugs and lanterns. Just make sure that you maintain a clean and uncluttered space.

Sep 2016 Travelshopa | Lush Velvet Fall Inspiration

Inspiration: Soho House, Chicago

As fall swiftly approaches and we say our final goodbye to summer, we’re switching our summer home to a cosy nook. One thing that spells fall-ready is velvet.

Much like the medium room in Soho House Chicago, the use of lush velvet transforms any space into a rich, decadent and luxurious one. It’s also super soft – perfect for the cosy weather.

Take fall’s love for velvet to new heights by incorporating this luxe trend at home. A red velvet chair or throw pillow adds character to a room without making it feel too cluttered. We’ve also paired them with complementary home accessories decked in deep tones and gold accents. Play around with richly patterned rugs and wallpaper to add depth to your space.

Travelshopa recommends the Rococo Plush Rug.

Aug 2016 Travelshopa | Mixed Medals

Inspiration: Puro Hotel Palma, Spain

Mixing metals at home is a great and simple way to give your living space an instant facelift. And no, you don’t necessarily have to save it for the festive season. With the Olympics just around the corner, we thought it would be apt to take home the gold, silver and bronze with some mixed medals.

Our dose of inspiration for the week comes from a contemporary design hotel located in the old town of Palma de Mallorca. Puro Hotel Palma in Spain is an urban hotel that combines modern design, style and comfort. The rooms are decorated with voguish furniture and a bohemian touch – not to mention the subtle use of mixed metallics. The bronze and copper clothing rack, rose gold curtains, the use of a sleek silver shower head and a polished gold serving cart are stellar examples of how you can incorporate metallics without going too far. Likewise, we’ve chosen some of our favourites below. So, which ones are you adding to your shopping cart?

Jul 2016 Travelshopa | Old World Charm

Inspiration: The Yard Milan

Located in the Duomo neighbourhood and in the most popular nightlife district of Milan – The Yard Milan transports you to the 19th century with its decadent and grandiose rooms.

The quirky hotel is brimming with antiques and vintage furniture across the lobby and rooms – think old world charm like Victorian armchairs, antique leather suitcases with metal details, miniature models of iconic vintage cars, sporting artefacts, and framed photos of iconic sportsmen. Quite a playground for the dandy man and every geek at heart. All suites and apartments offer a unique design based on a particular sport like golf, horseback riding, rugby and boxing, as pictured above.

We’ve carefully curated a set of furniture and homewares worthy of a man cave. The use of textures, natural colours of wood and robust materials reflect a form of masculinity and vigour. Time to spruce up those man caves.

Travelshopa recommends the Crumple Handtufted Rug.

Sep 2016 Travelshopa | Parisian Style

Inspiration: Le Narcisse Blanc Hotel Paris

Parisians tend to have a certain elegance when it comes to style – nonchalant, no trends, and classic. Their strong sense of self is carried through to the home. Typical Parisian style at home marries the old and new. This may be somewhat easier when your canvas is stunning historic architecture, but putting that aside there seem to be some common elements.

The elegant Le Narcisse Blanc Hotel in Paris resembles this quintessential Parisian style. Beyond the high ceilings, floor-length windows and parquet flooring, keeping the room simple with a neutral colour palette is a good starting point. Key is to add a mix of antique and modern furniture and curiosities with hints of gold, silver and brass. The daring may go a step further by adorning the walls with large, bold art or prints.

Travelshopa recommends the Etched Oval Tray.
