Hari Raya season of gatherings is upon us, and we all know what that means: home refresh time! Check out our Raya Bazaar homeware collection which includes the most gorgeous rugs to wow your guests.

Although, if your rug is still in good shape or you have a family heirloom carpet, a good tidying up is probably all you need.

We love to help you get tasks done and dusted, so gather 'round the rug and follow our simple care tips that we personally learned from handling hundreds of handmade rug designs.

1. Vacuum clean.

Vacuum once a week at the most. Too much vacuuming can pull the fibres out of the rug.

Use low to medium suction when vacuuming your rug.

Choose the right vacuum accessories. Please choose the right vacuuming attachments. Refer to your vacuum cleaner’s manual to look for attachments to be used for rugs & carpets. Avoid using attachments with brushes or any abrasive accessories which may harm the rug fibres.

Most rugs shed naturally. This is observed especially with new rugs. Shedding will subside with regular use.

2. Address spills asap.

Remove spills immediately. Use a clean cloth or dry paper towel to blot excess liquid.

In case of a liquid stain, send your rug for professional cleaning. The stain may or may not be removed completely but the earlier it’s cleaned, the better the results.

3. Be kind to the fibres.

Do not pull any threads. Snip loose ends with scissors.

Rotate your rugs if feasible every 6 months to even the process of wear and tear, especially if your rug receives direct sunlight.

If you need to store your rug, make sure that the rug is clean and dry first. Roll the rug with the rug surface inwards. Make sure to store it in a ventilated and dry area.

Below are images of our rugs reinstated in customers' homes after we professionally cleaned them. What gives us pleasure about doing this job is that we see for ourselves that our rugs age really well. Some of these pieces were bought as far back as 2016 when we just started selling rugs!

5. Know thy materials.

If you have a viscose rug, vacuum regularly using the gentlest setting possible, as vigorous beating will wear the rug out more quickly. Viscose can absorb and retain water which can cause yellowing, so it should never be washed.

If you have a leather rug, take the rug outdoors and shake it out, instead of vacuuming them. This gives the rug a chance to “breathe”. To remove dirt and grime, use a brush designed for brushing fur, such as a wire pet brush, and gently brush in the direction of the grain.

6. Ask us anything.
