Living DNA Presents: The Bungalow
A styling project within a beautiful bungalow showcases our commitment to transforming spaces with purpose and elegance. This home belongs to a young family of four, and the brief was both exciting and ambitious: to elevate eight distinct spaces with rugs that complement the home’s natural light and lush garden views. The challenge was to create defined corners and areas without compromising the openness and balance of the home.
The homeowners’ appreciation for art and antiques shines throughout the space, yet they’ve achieved a design that feels uncluttered, sophisticated, and kid-friendly. Each rug was selected not just to complement but to enhance the character of each room, grounding the interiors while allowing the other elements to shine.
Main Living Room
Two rug setups transformed the heart of the home.
First, we introduced Abstract Kensington, a classic favourite, perfectly aligned with the room’s neutral palette. Drawing inspiration from the commanding wall art and earthy accents. Think wicker chairs and textured cushions (with Living DNA’s newest baby: cushions). The rug became an effortless addition.
For a bolder touch, we placed Alchemy in Terra from our Keong Saik Collection. This rug injected warmth and coziness, grounding the airy living room without overpowering its openness.
It was a close call, but the final choice was Alchemy Terra. Bold and grounding, it harmonized perfectly with the room’s openness, offering warmth and character. While Kensington was timeless, Terra brought a sense of individuality that aligned with the homeowners’ vision.
Dining Area
Rugs in dining spaces often raise maintenance concerns, but we knew Lithe in Cream was the perfect fit. Made from recycled PET fibers, this sustainable choice mimics the softness of wool while standing up to the demands of everyday use. It anchored the room beautifully, complementing the sleek shelving and adding understated elegance to the dining experience.

Breakfast Room
A cozy corner seating area can be tricky to style, but Mayfair in Grey proved to be a game-changer. This round rug softened the coolness of the marble flooring while also following the curves of the corner seating setup. According to the homeowners, this corner was underutilized, a space that saw little engagement despite its potential. Adding the rug transformed it into an inviting nook for coffee chats, work-from-home sessions, or quiet moments with a book. The transformation was subtle yet significant. You didn’t know it needed a rug until you saw it.
Entertainment Room + Kids’ Play Area
For these interconnected spaces, we embraced a playful, cohesive look with Abstract Aquamarine rugs. The rectangular rug in the entertainment room mirrored the watercolour-like blues and marigold of the circular version in the kids’ area. Featuring the same design, the rugs created a sense of harmony and familiarity, ensuring both spaces feel connected while catering to the entire family.
Master Bedroom
A master bedroom should transport you to your favorite luxury resort holiday, and Beam Gradient in Beige brought that vision to life. With its plush Tencel pile, this rug offers unmatched comfort. Imagine waking up to its softness underfoot. The choice was as luxurious as it was practical, enhancing the room’s serene and holiday-like ambiance.
Foyer
An entrance sets the tone for the entire home, and we relished the opportunity to make this one unforgettable. Alchemy in Rust from our Keong Saik Collection was the perfect choice, echoing the warmth of the wooden staircase and main doors while highlighting the art adorning the wall. The result? A grand yet inviting foyer that introduces the home’s thoughtful, stylish design.
