Abstract Foliage Blue and Gray Handknotted Silk Rug

Blue and gray patterned rug.

This ornate rug celebrates the romance of nature with a botanical landscape reinterpreted in a modern abstract pattern, seemingly deconstructed as an artist's painting. One perceives a sense of familiarity owing to the design's natural origins. With such carpets being made less and less in the current culture of rapid time-to-market, the complex artistry of the Abstract Foliage Rug becomes all the more a rare treasure in the home.

Handknotting is the most labour-intensive of all rugmaking processes. Working off a rug map, artisans tie individual knots to build up the rug’s design one row at a time. You can identify a handknotted rug by the individual, often uneven knots visible on the back of the rug, mirroring the pattern visible on the front.

Only one piece of this kind is created. Highly intricate, it is made by specially trained women weavers in their rural homes.

A 170x 240 cm rug can take between 5 to 12 months depending on the design complexity. The quality of a hand-knotted rug is determined by the number of knots per square inch (KSPI). A higher KPSI requires greater skill on the part of the weaver and results in a higher quality rug.

This rug is a piece de resistance, a work of art for your floor. Because the patterns have a mural-like quality, varying with different sections of the rug, we recommend placing it in an area where most of the rug can be seen and appreciated, such as the living room or under a bed with legs.

Work with this rug's blue tones when selecting soft furnishing such as cushions and upholstery for a coherent interior style.

Vacuum clean once a week. Choose the right vacuum accessories. Avoid using attachments with brushes or any abrasive surfaces.

Some shedding may occur, and will lessen over time.
