DETAILS & INSPO
The Skyline rug exudes a pared down aesthetic at first glance. Upon closer examination of its silvery patterns, a botanical world is revealed in abstract. Offering the best of both worlds, this collectible piece transcends time and space.
Handknotting is the most labour-intensive of all rugmaking processes. Working off a rug map, artisans tie individual knots to build up the rug’s design one row at a time. You can identify a handknotted rug by the individual, often uneven knots visible on the back of the rug, mirroring the pattern visible on the front.
Only one piece of this kind is created. Highly intricate, it is made by specially trained women weavers in their rural homes.
A 170x 240 cm rug can take between 5 to 12 months depending on the design complexity. The quality of a hand-knotted rug is determined by the number of knots per square inch (KSPI). A higher KPSI requires greater skill on the part of the weaver and results in a higher quality rug.
